This is my first time participating in Similing Sally's Blue Monday event. When you are done having a look around her be sure to visit her to see more sites. Amsterdam is one of my favorite places that inspires me. So I thought it would be fun to share a touch of Dutch Blue inspiration. Amsterdam is an interesting bohemian place, but one I always enjoyed spending time in.
I also want to thank Melissa at The Inspired Room for hosting A Beautiful Life. You can visit Melissa to see more participants.
I am happy you found your way here. Thank you for visiting!
Cathy
I am an American who lived in Dubai for five years. When I traveled back and forth from the USA to the Middle East, I usually laid over at Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands. It was a great stopover, because they have a wonderful mall at their terminal! It is filled with interesting shops where I could entertain myself until it was time to board my next flight. It was a long journey from my home in Colorado to my villa in Dubai. It took 32 hours from door to door, if my flights were on time.
The projection sticking out of the top of the gable is called a Hijsbalk (hoist beam). This is used for moving large pieces of furniture and merchandise to the upper level, because the interior stairs tend to be very narrow and steep.
I regularly flew on KLM Airline, and as a parting gift they gave miniature, delft, replica houses each time you traveled with them. Between my husband, daughter, and myself we collected around 60. So it was an unexpected, happy coincidence I started a blue delft collection. It began with the little houses, and I added other blue objects along the way. This is a corner in my home office where I can curl up with a good book. It is a favorite room in my home, and has a fireplace, which comes in handy on snowy evenings. The bay window overlooks woods, and lets in alot of natural light.
This is the room where I make my blog magic happen, because my computer is located here!
I love art, and when possible I like to visit museums to view a Master Artist's original work. Vincent van Gogh, and Johannes Vermeer who painted Girl with a Pearl Earring (1665) are two of my favorites, that worked out of Amsterdam.
It is quick to get from the airport to the heart of Amsterdam by train. The city is easy to maneuver, and there is lots to see and do. You can take a bus to the countryside to visit the tulips fields, and of course the windmills.
I try to keep my collection contained. One of the ways I do this is by using this cabinet to feature some of the pieces.
The city is filled with tall, narrow buildings that often share common walls known as canal houses. Amsterdam is surrounded by water, and has a water system that runs through it. There are boats you use like buses, and you can purchase a day ticket, which lets you get on and off anywhere on the route.
This beer stein actually came from the Rhine area of Germany, but it is a favorite piece which depicts musicians playing, and fits in with the delft.
Each KLM house is numbered on the bottom, and is an authentic replica of a historical home in Amsterdam. My travels have influenced my interior design and has filled me with happy memories.

I love your delft houses! Maybe someday I can go to Amsterdam. It looks like such a lovely place. Thanks for taking us there in pictures!:-) Have a great day!
Delft Blue is an excellent base for an expanding
collection and goes with so many other colors.
Individualy the pieces can combine with flowers
to create a centerpiece for a brunch or luncheon. Thank you for making this Monday
inspirational for me. Hugs, Myke
What a great collection! I think it would be great to visit the Netherlands! I have only been out of the United States to a little portion of Mexico...I know...how sad is that?! You would think with my husband being AF I would have traveled alot more, but he usually only travels here in the United States. We do plan on doing lots of traveling as the years come though. Thanks for sharing all the great blue! One of my favorite colors!
Hugs to you,
~Victoria~

WOW Dubai has always fascinated me Cathy. I can't imagine 32 hours!!! OMG Your stops in Amsterdam looked fab.

Blessings,

Cathy, Love the architecture of buildings you have pictured! How interesting it must have been for you living over there! Your blue collection is great too, the little kissing dutch couple caught my eye!
Oh Cathy, how my heart LOVES Nell Hill's! I've taken my mom to Atchison, KS to her original location twice and now I don't even have to leave my own backyard as she recently (as in a year and half or so ago) opened her Kansas City location! I even had the pleasure of meeting Mary Carol Garrity at the Kansas City store not long after the grand opening! Her stores are a feast for the eyes! (While I love the Kansas City store I really feel like her Atchison location is where I find the best deals!) Would love to meet you if you decide to swing thru and stop at her Kansas City location! I think Nancy over at Acorn Cottage has an affinity for her too! I noticed when you first introduced yourself last week that you had Nell Hill's listed on your profile and it caught my eye!
Blessings,
Valerie
Blessings of joy to you ,
I adore your village .Thank you for sharing the wonderful pictures and the slide show was exquisite as well.
Happy Blue Monday .
Thank you so much for visiting me and becoming a follower. I am always amazed when I have gained another follower. That is so sweet of you. I love you blues. The houses are so cool. I had thought of painting a bunch of houses, but never did. I still may try to do that sometime though. At the moment I have enough projects on my plate. I also have a craft blog. Don't know if you visited that one yet. Another, your last name was my maiden name. Spelled the same as yours. Now isn't that wild?
Oh! I love all of your delft blue! Thank you for stopping by humble little blog :) I've taken a gander around here and I definitely love your style. Can't wait to read more!

Cathy, you can't go wrong with white; the "Gollum" dishes do look awesome, I'm just not a fan of Gibson dishes. I've never been that impressed with their dishes.
I'm holding out for the Nikko "Blanc Fleur" at Tuesday Morning... ;-)
Have a great Tuesday my friend!

Cathy, I love your little blue houses and the cute cupboard you store them in. Thank you for visiting my blog. The beaded flowers are actually vintage most thrifted from my favorite shop that I try to avoid assiduously :)
Have a great week.
What a lovely collection of little blue houses and an interesting post. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! I'm so glad I came here to see your Blue Monday. What an interesting post. My hubby spent a couple of days in Amsterdam on his way to Ethiopia about 20 years ago. He really enjoyed visiting there. I'll have to show him this post. I know he will also enjoy it. He flew KLM on that trip and has talked about it through the years. He was impressed at how well he was treated. He brought home a pretty set of coasters from the airline.
Hope you had a Happy Blue Monday.
Charlotte

Thank you for the lovely comments you made about my dolls and about Leah. I've been so busy with my other blogs that I've kind of neglected the doll blog lately. Now I'm getting more into books and have committed to writing a book review. Also I've started a Friday French lesson online. I notice you use a lot of French in your blog. So much to do - so little time.
Charlotte
Thank you for stopping by my blog...I'm sorry I'm just getting by, but oh how I love the blue you have displayed here! It's fabulous! Hope you are having a great week!

I enjoyed world traveling with you. I picked up three of the little houses at a thrift store but never knew anything about them. Well, you do learn something new everyday! I am a big fan of blue and white from years back. I still can’t resist it! Thanks for your visit to my garden. We are in PA and spring is here but the temps remain pretty much in the high 40’s. We are promised warmer temps by the weekend. Here’s hoping!
Kate

I love Delft!! I love the Netherlands-one of my favorite places to visit! That is so neat that you were given those pieces! Beautiful post as usual.
Hello Cathy, First time I visit. How nice you love Amsterdam and Dutch Blue. Remember though, if you don't mind me saying, that Rembrand van Rijn worked from Amsterdam but Johannes Vermeer lived in Delft with his family of many children and he worked from Delft, where he died young.
I live in the south of Nederland and my aunt was born in Delft where she died last year at the age of 88, just around the corner of Vermeer's house.
I will love to return to your lovely blog.
Be well.
Ariadone
