Dimensional Monogram Picture, Project & Tutorial!

I found this picture frame at a garage sale over the weekend so I created this chic, quick and easy dimensional monogrammed picture for my daughter's Restoration Style Bedroom.

I am definitely hooked on monograms and this is my 2nd tutorial for a monogram project. You can view my 1st Computer Monogram Project here.

It turned out cute so I wanted to share my instructions how to make one for yourself.

Supplies needed:
Picture frame
Wood letter
Assortment of ribbons
Decorative button
Craft paint
Decorative scrapbook paper
Glue gun
Elmer’s glue
Sequins

Start by taking the picture frame apart and cutting the scrapbook paper to fit the cardboard backing that comes with the frame. Glue the scrapbook paper to the cardboard using Elmer’s glue. The paper I used was heavy so the glue did not show on the front side. I then weighed it down with several heavy books so it dried flat.

Paint the wood letter with craft paint and add sparkly sequins once it is dry to give it some BLING!

A variation would be to decoupage decorative paper to the letter instead of using paint.

When everything is dry, hot glue the painted wood letter to the scrapbook paper, which has been glued to the cardboard.

First do a dry run with the frame in place to make sure it is centered!

Assemble the picture frame back together, minus the glass on top. However, tuck the glass between the cardboard layers to make the backing rigid.

Top with a bow made from assorted ribbons. Hot glue everything together including the button in the center. Then finish it off, hot glue the bow to the top of the frame and you're finished.

Enjoy Your New Monogram Picture!

  10. Cathy, that is so cool about you liking Asian and learning about Feng Shui! I learn a lot from Lillian Too. Her book is what makes the most sense to me and Stephanie McWilliams' (former Fun Shui host on HGTV)contemporary take on Feng Shui for Western Life is what helps me explain it to others.

  15. Very sweet project! I love that you give directions for it. I'm going to share this with my artistic daughter Anne.

And thanks for your kind comments on That Old House getting dolled up for Memorial Day. She likes to get gussied up -- it makes the cracks and fading paint so much less noticeable!
