We all have them, at least I do! A corner area that could use a little special something, but you don’t want to bust the bank to buy anything new. I move around often so don’t have the luxury of selecting pieces specifically for a given home. I have to work my furniture and accessories into the spaces as best as I can. My dining room corner needed a little something to flush it out, but it was not wide or deep enough for anything big.

I wanted to give this corner a little sparkle and create some interest to jazz it up a bit. Whatever, I conjured up could not interfere with guests moving about the seating.

This round table was in my basement doing nothing but collecting dust, so I thought it would do nicely for the foundation of my corner makeover.

I took silver polish and a bit of elbow grease to this tiered serving tray. I had not used it since the holidays and it was sitting idle in a cupboard. The table and tray together created height without encroaching on the space. The same effect could be achieved with a plate stand or a small rectangular table placed at an angle. The idea is to improvise and look at what you have on hand in a new and different way.

I gathered a variety of pieces and first laid them out to see how they worked together before assembling them. For this look I used some silver, crystal, a toile plate and a rose. I freshened them up with a good cleaning first and played around arranging them until I got a look that worked.

This is the final result from my mixing and matching up of some odd pieces. I had friends for dinner this weekend and to my surprise and delight this set up is what they noticed and commented on most in the room!
