These crisp blue and white images speak strongly to me of carefree summers spent at the beach in Maine. For me there is nothing finer then feasting on fresh lobster and dining alfresco in the company of good friends and family.

The Walk, Woman with a Parasol
Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a French artist and the founder of the impressionistic art movement. Instead of copying the Old Masters in the Louver, which was a popular technique of the time he struck out on his own. He preferred painting what he saw outside the view from his window. He later found inspiration from his well tended private garden Giverney. This became a source of many of his later works and is now open to the public for tours.

Most of her adult life was spent in France where she became part of the impressionist art movement. Her work centered on the private lives of women and children.
