Vintage Paris

On my way to Trader Joe's to buy their their Orange Chicken that I love. I stopped at a garage sale on a whim, and found this gem. I didn't win the lotto this week, but I felt lucky scoring this vintage Paris book. It was printed a few years before WW II and shows a slice of Parisian life in these wonderful black and white photos. I adore old books like this one that captures a glimpse into another era.
I almost forgot the book was the grand sum of one quarter.
Ooh La La!

I guess summer is really over since this is Rhoda's last Thrifty Treasures Party, but it sure was a great season!

Thanks Rhoda, for hosting this fun weekly event!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, I used to have a great-aunt that had a place in Montana, they owned a small general store with the living quarters above the store - it was so cute! I envy you these pictures.
I look at the one of the woman alone that you have titled "Parisian Chic" Do you wonder who is she? How did she live her life? Did she fall in love? Did she marry the person she loved? Was she happy?
I hope to check back sometime.
    Great blog.Thanks

When I look at these old photos I also wonder how the people's lives must have changed abruptly from the fast approaching war. They capture an innocence lost forever.

  23. Ahhhh...the mystery of old photographs! Why do you see so many of them with no smiles on their faces? I have always wondered about that. Nice look back in time and what a bargain....25 cents!~Patti

  24. Patti,
I wondered the same thing why most are not smiling. Maybe they had bad teeth! When I lived in Dubai my Pakistani gardener loved to have his photo taken, but would never smile. It seemed to be very serious business for him.
P.S. Gardeners in Dubai were like a paper boy they went from villa to villa watering and cutting the grass every morning.

It is too pretty outside to stay inside and I have discovered I am inspired to paint right now. I am wondering if I might paint the lovely Parisian in that book...in black and white? hmmmm

  53. Cathy, what great pictures! I love B&W ones that tell a great deal of story.

I was reading some of my older tablescape posts and I read yours about me publishing a book on my tables. I've been asked that so many times, I've really been considering it lately. I do want to have a better grasp at taking better pictures first though. It's been hit and miss with me so I think I need to hit the library and brush up on photography 101.

Oh yeah, sorry I haven't visited for a while.

    Hugs, Chandy
