Christmas JOY!

As a child I fondly remember Christmas as a time being spent with family and welcoming friends. I’m one of seven children, so there was an abundance of fun and activity growing up in my household. Funny, but we didn’t seem large at the time, because there was a family of twelve children across the street. Since that was my frame of reference in comparison we seemed rather small!
Growing up I felt blessed, because I had the love of family and a beautiful house to call home. My parents made all the holidays wonderful, but Christmas was the pièce de résistance. Living in Colorado meant ice skating, sledding and skiing chased with a crackling fire and hot chocolate.
I lived in a close knit neighborhood with many children and knew most everyone around. Christmas Eve was special, and made even more so, because of the kindness of a generous neighbor Mr. Rapp, the father of twelve. For many years he dressed up in a magnificent Santa suit, accompanied by some of his children costumed as elves. They had the tradition of visiting each home on our block with children. This was a much anticipated event, and the little ones anxiously watched for Santa’s arrival with their noses pressed against their front windows. Santa and his entourage came with much pomp and circumstance. He played the part perfectly with a hearty Ho, Ho, Ho, and silver bells jangling. He brought with him two large impressive leather bound black books. One was a “Good Book” and the other a “Bad Book”. After a lighthearted review of whether we ate our vegetables and did our homework we were allowed to record our name in the “Good Book” for prosperity's sake!

Faux poinsettias were tucked into a bed of evergreen boughs. I live in the "Land Of Four Seasons", so what is placed outside must be sturdy and hold up against the winter elements.

All Christmas trees are perfect!

In my light and bright family room I used silver and gold metallic touches through out.
Easy Tree Skirt tip: I used a piece of metalic gold fabric. I first laid a quilt down to create a bit of loft then draped the fabric over it, and folded under the ends.

An easy topper!

I love posts that bring those tears of joy and this one did just that. Loved all the decor and quotes, but my favorite thing today has to be the memories of your childhood. The neighbor with the books, the eager anticipation of the children…how wonderful.

Everything looks so beautiful! I like your easy tree topper. I have been using a bow, but am sick of it, so my tree is naked on top! I'll have to see if I can find something to stick in the top like you did.

Stunning Cathy, everything looks so inviting. I love the cherubs and white feathers, so light hearted and carefree. You make it look easy.
Your white and creme home is absolutely stunning. I know your family will have a wonderful reunion for Christmas...I loved your stories of childhood... I wonder how the neighbor children celebrate Christmas now, all twelve of them, mercy, plus families... there were only four of us and we are at 30 people now. You could be entertaining hundreds from your own family... They would be a whole village....

Isn't your family lucky to have your wonderful home to spend a beautiful Christmas celebration?
Looks like your cool calm and ready to have a rockin holiday.

I need to get in geer...Have a lovely weekend.

Cathy, your home is decorated so lovely for Christmas. It is so welcoming! I love the little angels dancing around in the feathers, so precious!

It sounds like you had a great childhood growing up with so many siblings. It is always so neat to hear Christmas stories from other people’s childhood.

Have a wonderful weekend,

This is an exquisite post, and your Christmas home is a true treasure. A feast for my eyes, for sure, as I am in the middle of clutter-clearing projects and have a husband who has decided he has no energy for decorating this year. We will get our tree tomorrow and I'll probably decorate it on Monday. It's just an off year for me...... and so, truly, I thank you for the gift of this look into your beautiful home at the holidays. I feel uplifted from my visit!

Cathy, I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful tour, and I loved your quotes.

I can just picture that wonderful gentleman dressed up as Santa with his elves in tow. How great is that! There was a man just like that in my hometown, and if Santa existed, it was this man. He adored children... his and everyone else's! Special people. Special memories. I hope your Christmas is filled with both...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Hi Cathy
I see the spirit of Christmas is alive and thriving in your beautiful home.

I love the quote by Erma Bombeck ... so true! We should all be children on Christmas morning. I'll have to remember this and hide some presents around the house for myself.. hehe

Thanks for popping over to visit.. I too have the travel bug... maybe maybe.. Take care xx Julie

PS Love the Santa in the previous post too.

Everything is beautiful! I love the wreaths hanging from your outside windows. My husband wants to hang a couple of lighted stars from the two highest points on our house next year. They are pretty high. We didn't go any higher than the top of the porch this year...he's afraid of heights and we don't have a very tall ladder yet. Next year maybe we'll get a bigger ladder, and he'll have the then 14 y.o. boy climb!

Merry Christmas!

The Stylish House said...

Kayren,
Luckily, we can mount the wreaths from the inside and don't have to use a ladder!!! Hubby hangs them, and I stand outside and say "Yes Dear" that looks right.

Your holidays must have been magical with such beautiful decorations! I love your tree topper...I was looking for an alternative to the plain angel I had...wish I'd seen your post sooner! I have to admit, my home was quite a mish-mash this year, as we married in October and combined families and thus had quite a pile of holiday "stuff"! It looked more like a Charlie Brown Christmas, but was fun and just fine for the kids!
